Easy Guide to Photography Styles (With Examples!)
One of the most common things you’ll quickly discover is that there are different photography styles. So a bride (or groom) might be asking themselves, “What is a photography style and how do I know which wedding photography style I want?” Also, does it really matter? Since wedding photography costs so much, I would say yes!Know what you’re getting when you hire a wedding photographer. A good photographer with a good amount of experience will have a particular look to his/her images. They shoot, edit, and stylize towards a certain look. So here’s a quick guide to wedding photography styles, what these particular photographers focus on, and what makes us different from each other.
What is natural/film look photography?
By Mercy Hasselblad
This is my photography style. Natural Film photographers color to keep skin tones very natural, but turn down the saturation of greens and yellows in other parts of the image, usually. Use curves to give it a little bit of contrast, color correct for skin, and all done! In particular, I LOVE shooting at golden hour. My priorities are making my clients comfortable, shooting with available light, and being invisible on a wedding day.

What is Light and Airy Photography?
The first style (and the most light) on the carousel is light and airy. Light and airy is an ethereal style of photography. It pushes greens a little towards blue, skies are often white, and it can look very romantic. Examples of light and airy photographers:
Amy + Jordan
Maggie Smith
Kristin Sautter
Quick Note: It’s not just about styles, but about locations!
Some photographer’s specialize in indoor portraiture. They like the controlled lighting, the stable location, and the predictable weather. Others, like Carly, are on a whole other level and specialize in shooting in epic locations (and might not like being cooped up inside). Just make sure your photographer’s work matches up with the venue/location you have chosen.
